Higher Efficiency

Necessity is the mother of invention

Mr. Joaquim de Souza

Joaquim Batista de Souza - Can Plant Manager - Working for Metalgrafica Rojek since 1963. After working a few years with Stretch MachineTM side by side with Spin Flow, he gave us his opinion.

"After working with the spin-flow process for years, we realized we had to find a better way to bend the metal into the final shape we wanted it. So this expanded can was created and the benefits were so many that I could list many of them: first, I don't need any special sheets, second, much less maintenance is required. Third, the quality of the can itself is much better.

This idea came to us as a result of having conducted weld quality tests many years via stretching the cylinder to test the weld strength... And it worked! And the results are proven. We have already made millions and millions of high quality cans, and the can is on the market... And this commercial success is the real proof!"

More efficient and higher quality results than any other technology ever available on the market

The idea of stretching the can outward along the body, instead of necking it inward at the top to achieve the same final shape has brought many benefits over the old method of necking inward. Another advantage to the can maker is that the quality of the finished can is superior as the can welding is tested by the Stretch MachineTM. Most importantly for the can maker, the line runs much better, with more efficiency and much less maintenance.

The following chart, based on 2 years of data, compares the stretching process to spin-flow necking:

  Spin-flow Necking Stretch MachineTM
Effective speed 500 cpm 800 cpm
Metal exposure 10 mA 6 mA
Spoilage 1.1% 0.6%
Efficiency 75% 85%
Vacuum resistance 1.7 kg/cm2 3.5 kg/cm2

Proven equipment that will reduce costs and increase the efficiency of your necking or shaping can lines

Stretch Machine

The Stretch MachineTM is fully guarded and interlocked for safety.

  • The Stretch MachineTM is an innovative idea which leads to cost reductions for the can maker: savings of up to 6% on every can, coming just from the smaller lid.
  • Stretch MachineTM works with standard industry coatings and metal (SR and DR).
  • 100% of the can production has its weld integrity tested during the stretching process. It actually reveals welding defects.
  • Flange
  • Pin holes and inclusions on metal are also revealed during the stretching process, thus guaranteeing the quality of all cans shipped to customers.
  • Stretch MachineTM does not damage the weld or the internal coating.
  • Stretch MachineTM provides uniform flange width.
